Cutting carbs lowers insulin, and lower insulin makes the kidneys flush sodium and water faster. That is the mechanism behind most of what people call keto flu in the first two weeks.
What to look for
- Sodium, potassium and magnesium together rather than a sodium only product
- Zero sugar and zero maltodextrin
- Stick packs for travel, tubs for daily use at home
- Unflavoured versions if you want to add it to cooking as well as drinks
Good to know
This is a general wellness product, not medical advice. If you take blood pressure medication or have kidney issues, speak to your doctor before adding sodium or potassium deliberately.

The catch
Branded keto electrolytes are expensive for what is mostly salt. Salt in water, a stock cube and some magnesium cover the same need for a fraction of the cost.
