Avocado Oil, Refined for High Heat
Avocado Oil, Refined for High Heat
Chosen Foods 100% Pure Avocado Oil, 16.9 oz
In the 2020 UC Davis study that found most US avocado oils old or mixed with other oils, Chosen Foods was one of only two refined brands named as pure. It is refined for high heat, which is what this guide is about.

A neutral tasting oil with one of the highest smoke points in the kitchen. It is the practical choice for searing, roasting and homemade mayonnaise when olive oil would taste too strong.
What to look for
- 100 percent avocado oil, not a blend with sunflower or canola
- Refined for high heat cooking, cold pressed for dressings
- A dark glass bottle or tin, which protects the oil from light
- A harvest or best before date printed on the bottle
Good to know
Avocado oil is one of the more commonly adulterated oils, so a brand that publishes purity testing is worth a little extra. Store it away from the hob, since heat shortens its life.

The catch
Independent tests have found many avocado oils on US shelves to be old or blended with cheaper oils. Unless the brand publishes purity testing, you may be paying avocado prices for something else.
