Ketone Test Strips
Ketone Test Strips
Ketostix Reagent Strips, 50 count
The long established pharmacy brand, with a clear colour chart and a known track record. Fifty strips is plenty, because this guide explains they stop being useful after the first weeks.

The cheapest way to confirm that something is happening in week one. Not precise, but the moment the strip changes colour is a real motivator for a lot of beginners.
What to look for
- A far out expiry date, since strips degrade once the bottle is opened
- 100 to 150 strips per bottle, which is plenty for a first month
- A clear colour chart printed on the bottle rather than a separate insert
- Foil wrapped singles if you will use them slowly
Set your expectations
Urine strips measure acetoacetate that your body is excreting. As you become fat adapted you excrete less of it, so the strips fade even while you are firmly in ketosis. That is normal and not a sign that anything went wrong.

The catch
They stop being useful once you are fat adapted, often within a few weeks, and readings depend on how much you drank. Do not judge your progress by them after the first month.
